Artistic Statement
It has been amazing to find actors and audiences alike that are simply present and “being.” This rarity is fascinating and challenges me to find more theatrical experiences where all are called and expected to be present, think or feel, and respond. Having directed many students’ first theatrical experiences, I’ve watched the infection spread for life. I have many unique experiences and gifts to offer our next generation in their development as human beings, citizens, and thespian artists.
I believe in the transforming power of stories as a vehicle for change. This vehicle can, if developed mindfully and with an entrepreneurial spirit, encourage intellectual, emotional, and social development, remove barriers, open hearts and minds, and promote an environment of respect, passion, and invention in the pursuit of excellence. I want to be a part of collaborative projects where my voice has value and can impact the lives of current and future generations. Additionally, I hope that my journey will always include steps to strengthen, shape, and refine this voice. To this end, I want to be part of a legacy of improved human experiences and connections and know I have many strengths that can be utilized to accomplish this.
Great theatre CAN change the world. The cathartic and provocative power we have as theatre professionals must be delicately and deliberately handled with a servant’s heart while not sheltering audiences from the challenging truths that surround us daily. We must engage, using our power to tell stories that ask difficult questions and make the world think.
